Okotoks is a town situated in the Alberta Foothills along the Sheep River Valley, 18 kilometers (11 mi) south of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. With a population of over 17,145, Okotoks has become a popular bedroom community for the city of Calgary.
The town's name is derived from the Blackfoot word "okatoks" which means "rock" and refers to a large boulder located 8 km West of the Town. The boulder is the world's largest known glacial erratic, deposited by retreating glaciers some 10,000 years ago.
